We’ve done it or seen someone do it. Text while driving, of course. The more people do it, the more it comes to light how dangerous this practice can be. Statistically teens seem to be the most affected by related accidents. The prevailing thought, teens text more. But, the satistics prove otherwise. Adults over 50 are the fastest growing users of this technology. Texting messages rose from 48 billion per year in 2007 to over 110 billion in 2008. This is a huge social problem that affects all drivers. In the 90′s people were worried about drivers using cell phones and driving, now it’s texting while driving. It is yet another driving distraction we can group in with other driver distractions including eating, drinking (alcohol and more) applying make up, dressing, undressing, arguing, using the radio, etc. Come on, don’t tell me you never seen these activities while driving on the highways in metro Atlanta. Texting and driving as well as any other distraction is no laughing matter. Distractions are dangerous, placing your life, the life of your passengers and those driving around you at risk. So, don’t do it!
What’s being done about this problem?
- AT&T recently started a “No text is worth dying over” campaign in an effort to raise awareness of this growing problem.
Take out your wireless device. Read the last text message you received out loud. Would reading or responding to that message from behind the wheel of a moving vehicle be worth the risk of getting into an accident or worse? Chances are it could wait.
In today’s 24/7/365 world, staying connected is no longer an option. It’s a necessity. With a tenfold increase in text messaging over the last three years according to CTIA – The Wireless Association, there is no question that texting is increasingly becoming the way many communicate today. And, for many, the allure to quickly read and respond – even from behind the wheel of a moving vehicle – can be tempting.
Our goal is to educate all wireless users, but especially teen drivers,
that there is a smart way to text.
Our message is simple, yet vital: When it comes to texting and driving, it can wait.
Ask a texting accident lawyer, like us, questions you may have regarding this matter we are here to help you. What are the worse things you’ve seen while driving on the city streets and highways here in Atlanta, Georgia or elsewhere?
