Politicians in Georgia are considering joining the states that have laws on the books restricting wireless communication use to varying degree’s. To clarify the issue, nationwide there are 4 types of bans that have placed restriction on wireless device use while driving. Some states have some, all or none of these in place. The current laws and laws under consideration are areas of expertise for a texting accident lawyer.

The four bans are as follows:
Any hand held device use while driving ban – 7 states
Young driver hand held device use ban (most common being drivers under 18) – 21 states
Commercial bus driver hand held use while driving ban – 17 states
Texting while driving bans 20 states

Federal hand held device bans currently apply to all commercial vehicle operators

Georgia has considered joining the states banning texting while driving, but the law has been stalled at the capital. Alabama is in a similar predicament trying to determine how best to codify the law. South Carolina, and Florida also have similar hand held device use laws under consideration.

Local jurisdictions may or may not need specific state statutory authority to ban cellphones. Localities that have enacted restrictions on cellphone use include: Oahu, HI; Chicago, IL; Brookline, MA; Detroit, MI; Santa Fe, NM; Brooklyn, North Olmstead, and Walton Hills, OH; Conshohocken, Lebanon, and West Conshohocken, PA; Waupaca County, WI; and Cheyenne, WY.*

Texting accident lawyers are experts in this area of law. Do you think Georgia should enact laws with restrictions on the use of wireless communication devices?
